A Safavid miniature depicting the Mevlevi sama — the whirling prayer ceremony of the Sufi dervishes. Twelve figures turn within a mosque interior of extraordinary tile precision. Al-Nakhchivani was himself a practitioner and depicted the ceremony from the inside.
